Over 200,000 international students choose to relocate and study in Australia every year for the better part of the last decade. Australia and the international education sector have benefited economically, culturally and diplomatically as a result. The journey of an international student is exciting, but it is not without its challenges. Students in general receive the promised reputable education from Australian institutions, experience the Australian way of living and connect with peers and experts in a global setting. However, most students also experience culture shock and transition that may be difficult, face social issues like racism and discrimination, as well as various mental health concerns.
Ultimately, studying abroad in Australia is a transformative experience for international students. Over the past year, the COVID-19 pandemic has also been a major disruption for international students and the sector. This presentation focuses on the positive experiences that students value, highlights the issues and challenges students face, and analyses the impact of COVID-19 and how we can move forward together.
