Emily Edwards is a Lecturer in Academic Language and Learning at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia. She started her career as an English language teacher, working in Europe and Japan before settling in Australia, where she taught and coordinated programs in several ELICOS centres. In 2012, she took part in the national Action Research in ELICOS program, which led her on to explore the ways in which action research informs teacher development. She has recently co-authored a book titled ‘Sustaining Action Research: A Practical Guide for Institutional Engagement’, and in her talk she will draw on key concepts from the book to describe ways of creating and sustaining research communities of practice in ELT.
