
Associate Professor Phil Chappell
Bio
Associate Professor Phil Chappell has been involved in Applied Linguistics and TESOL for many years, including teaching and managing English language programs internationally and in Australia. He has been in the Linguistics department at Macquarie for the past ten years, where he teaches and supervises research students in the Applied Linguistics and TESOL courses. His role as Director of Education focuses on supporting the student experience and supporting development of teaching capability across the department. Phil’s research focuses on several aspects of second language teaching and learning, including second language classroom interaction, language teacher cognition, professional development for language teachers, applications of systemic functional grammar to second language teaching, genre-based pedagogy, and international English language students’ study abroad experiences.
