Bio

Jakki has been involved in the ESL/EFL community for approximately 20 years and particularly enjoys the collaboration and sharing within the ELT network. She has taught in a variety of contexts, both internationally and nationally. As a teacher, she is passionate about empowering her students through the development of self-confidence and learner-independence by enabling them to find their voice in English. Her personal area of interest is the unique and complex relationship between culture, identity and language.

As a leader, she strives to set the example through everyday actions. She values professional development and quality teaching, which is at the heart of every successful student learning journey. Jakki’s keen interest and commitment to professional development saw her receive one of NEAS’ first Master Practitioner in ELT Awards for her development of a professional development program based on staff feedback and organisational needs. Currently, she is in the process of developing and implementing a similarly contextualised program.
