Overview of role

CQUEnglish is a NEAS Quality Endorsed centre and offers courses in English for Academic Purposes for adult learners on pathways into CQUniversity degree programs. Our students benefit from our drive for excellence in learning and teaching in a supportive and friendly environment.

CQUEnglish is currently seeking expressions of interest from qualified and experienced English Language Teaching professionals to join our team. Appointments will be offered on a casual contract basis.

Please note this vacancy is a casual pool only. Your expression of interest will remain valid until the end of 2025. You will only be contacted if selected when appropriate casual work becomes available.

Key Selection Criteria

Qualifications (essential)

  • Three-year full-time degree or equivalent.
  • Recognised TESOL certificate (100 contact hours + at least six hours supervised and assessed practice teaching in TESOL) or a degree/diploma in education with TESOL method.

Experience

  • At least 2 years’ full-time equivalent English Language teaching experience, preferably at a recognised and quality endorsed Australian institution.
  • Experience teaching English for Academic Purposes courses.

Qualities

  • Proven ability teaching English as a second language in a multi-cultural classroom.
  • Willingness to actively participate in professional development and contribute positively to a culture of continuous learning.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and an ability to lead and work within teams.
  • A strong commitment to a customer-service based approach to education provision.

About the role

In this position, you will be responsible for the teaching delivery of one or more English related units (Exploring Narratives, Comparative Texts, Creative Narratives).
Duties include assessment, monitoring academic progress of students, contributing to the development of the Foundation Studies curriculum and providing an outstanding student experience.

About You

To be successful in this position you will have:

Essential

  • The minimum requirements for teachers primarily responsible for academic English language subject areas are:
    • A recognised degree AND
    • An appropriate English language teaching qualification AND
    • 2 years ESL/EFL teaching experience
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in delivering and assessing both in face-to-face and online classes (using a Learning Management System such as Canvas and Microsoft Teams).
  • Substantial discipline knowledge as it relates to this position.
  • Capacity to identify learning problems in students, propose and implement effective strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute effectively as a constructive and proactive member of a team.
  • Demonstrated skills in the use of relevant information and communication technologies
  • VIT registration or Current Working with Children Clearance.

Desirable

  • Experience teaching other tertiary or secondary school subjects.
  • Experience teaching international students in a tertiary or secondary school setting
  • TESOL (English Language Teaching Qualification) for teacher responsible for non-English subject areas.
  • Proven collegiality and the ability to share ideas

English Language Instructor (Expatriate) – Full Time

Job Summary

Reporting directly to the Academic Director or Academic coordinator, the English Language Instructor is responsible for planning, teaching and evaluating assigned classes in accordance with the ELS Language Centers curriculum with assistance from the AD or AC, Instructional Specialists and Senior English Language Instructors; for maintaining student class records; for fulfilling administrative duties as required and/or requested by the AD or AC; and for participating in professional development activities such as workshops, meetings and assisting Associate English Language Instructors.

Job Duties

  • To teach any of the ELS academic programmes as assigned by the Academic Director or Academic Coordinator.
  • To prepare lesson plans, exercises and tests.
  • To test, evaluate and counsel the student regarding his/her classroom performance.
  • To maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
  • To co-ordinate instruction, attendance records and evaluation with other teachers.
  • To know and adhere to Center policy and procedures and to communicate local policy to associate English Language Instructors.
  • To complete administrative paperwork as required or requested.
  • To maintain performance and attendance records.
  • To maintain Center resource materials and files
  • To refer non-academic problems to the appropriate person(s).
  • To be willing to observe for purposes of professional development and to be observed in all facets of the programmes.
  • To participate in administrative meetings and professional development activities.
  • To participate in the employee evaluation process (classroom observations and follow-up discussions and the performance appraisal process).
  • To provide Associate English Language Instructors with assistance.
  • To develop and /or refine teaching materials at the local level.

English Language Teacher – China

Overview:

  • Full time, 10-month Fixed term role, with possibility of extension
  • Locations: First 5 months effective from August 21st 2025 at RMIT University Pathways, Melbourne, followed by 5 months at the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT), Xuzhou, China

About the Role:

This is an exciting opportunity for three experienced English Language Teachers to teach with RMIT University Pathways (RMIT UP) in Xuzhou, China on an English language program delivered at the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT).

You will be employed initially in RMIT UP to become familiar with and teach our curriculum at our Melbourne campus, before heading to Xuzhou to teach the program at the CUMT. You will be available to join the Melbourne team from August 21st, 2025, or as soon after as possible, heading to China prior to the start of the new semester starting on 2 March 2026 and going through to mid-July 2026, with possibility to extend for one or more semesters.

You will be responsible for face-to-face classroom delivery and associated administration of the program. You will be required to liaise with colleagues in both Melbourne and China to provide feedback and contribute to enhancements to the curriculum and program administration. Teaching contact hours will not exceed 40 hours per fortnight.
