At the 2019 NEAS Management Conference, NEAS formally launched a new Self-Assessment process, forming part of a new three year Quality Assurance cycle. After a period of research and benchmarking activities with fellow Quality Assurance in Language Education Network (QALEN) bodies, a successful pilot was conducted at the start of the year with a select group of NEAS members.
The Self-Assessment process incorporates a review of current practice along with planning for continuous improvement. The aim is to support providers in owning their continuous improvement, setting goals and fostering self-review and critical reflection.
Do you have a Self-Assessment coming up this year? Here are some things you need to know;
- Self-Assessment is not replacing Quality Review Visits. Quality Review Visits will play an important role in the new QA cycle, functioning as a critical junction for all QA activities.
- The process is designed to enable targeted, and relevant reflection on areas of significance to individual Centres – You choose what to assess.
- Support is available;
- a clear, user-friendly template
- instructions for conducting the Self-Assessment from start to finish
- quality practice samples
- further information and PowerPoint slides upon request
- a designated support assessor
- optional 30 minute Zoom support meeting
- The process is economical, adaptable and action-oriented.
Self-Assessment can stimulate organisation-wide critical reflection on current practice and facilitate deeper understanding of Quality Principles. It contributes to business sustainability through empowering an active approach to quality control, collection of data, internal and external feedback, continuous improvement and critical reflection.
The following providers have already successfully completed a NEAS Self-Assessment this year;
- Southern Cross University
- University of Southern Queensland
- Hills Language College
- English Unlimited, Sydney
- Impact English College
- University of New England, English Language Centre
- Australian Centre for Education, Cambodia
- Kaplan International College, Brisbane
NEAS would like to congratulate these providers on their positive, professional approach to the Self-Assessment process.
